Hello I’m Taft Love and I’m running for Wyoming Senate district 6. My wife Jill and I have lived and worked in southeastern Wyoming since we graduated from the University of Wyoming. After a few years working in biological services for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and then moving into information and education with the Wyoming Business Council Division of Tourism we started our own ranching and outdoor recreation company. As second amendment enthusiasts we also started a small firearms manufacturing company and more recently we have built a construction company. In the past 30 years we have enjoyed raising our children here and we developed great relationships. I have served on several committees and boards in our community. I had the opportunity to serve 10 years on the Laramie County School District 2 board of trustees and was able to gain a tremendous amount of insight to how our governing bodies work and how our children are educated. I then took on the roll of central committeeman for the Laramie County Republican Party and was elected chairman of the party. I was put in this position to help mend the divide in our party. We have been able to successfully bridge the gap and create working relationships inside our party giving the LCGOP a voice both in our state and on the national stage. All of these positions have prepared me for helping give the people of Senate District 6 a more effective voice in the legislature.
  • Wyoming has put education at the forefront and investing in education is one of the best ways to create long term economic stability. I will work to make sure our education dollars are focused on the students and that teachers have the resources to effectively manage both the classroom and the curriculum. school choice is a great opportunity for Wyoming families to help create a better educational environment for their kids. I will continue to advocate and provide other opportunities to ensure our students are prepared for today’s job market.
  • We need to create a more sustainable and inviting business environment so we can recruit industries that fit Wyoming’s culture. This is vital to making sure we are able to retain our children in Wyoming after they graduate. Agriculture, tourism and water are vital parts of our heritage and fundamental to our way of life. I will look for ways to create growth and opportunity for the people of Wyoming to expand these industries. We must also continue to support our oil, gas and coal industries to stabilize our economy against market fluctuations and maintain the jobs that are so vital to our communities.
  • I will continue to fight for our second amendment rights, the right to life and maintain a low tax burden on our citizens. I will look for opportunities to bolster our positions in all of these areas in legislation.
Education and Appropriations policies are vital parts of our success and I will work for the people of Wyoming to make us more efficient and effective at educating our children while finding ways to reappropriate funds to make us more fiscally responsible with educational funding. I advocated for these things as a School Board member of Laramie County School District 2 and I want to bring these very effective strategies to all of Wyoming.
I also feel strongly about supporting our second amendment rights and think we should continue to defend these rights with sound legislation. We need to make land use regulations that make Wyoming a more business friendly environment. We also need to protect our oil, gas and coal industries from attack.
My Grandpa Kash as he showed great leadership and was a pillar in our community.
The ability to listen to the people of Wyoming and find solutions to complex problems that affect the ability for the State of Wyoming to maintain its responsibility to the people. We need leadership that is able to effectively communicate open and transparent policies. We must require our elected officials to be accountable, responsible and respectful in all of their dealings as a representative of the people. Elected officials also need to be able to work with other legislators in order to produce the best possible outcomes for Wyoming. It is necessary to be firm in your morals and use fact based information to negotiate your positions in order to bring others together to create effective legislation. One of the main reasons I am running is to bring this type of legislation back to Wyoming Senate District 6.
I have an effective way of building relationships and leading in difficult situations in order to unite the people around me and create positive outcomes.
The role of government and anyone elected to the state legislature is to provide:

1) justice
2) infrastructure
3) defense
4) education

All of these things should be delivered using the guidelines provided in our constitution. We should listen to the people of Wyoming to ensure that we are maintaining those expectations for the citizens.
The separation of powers is fundamental in our governmental system. However the two branches must work together to protect and produce the best possible outcomes for the State of Wyoming.
1) Availability and allocation of Water Rights

2) Job Growth and Development
3) Regulatory issues holding back growth.
4) Creating a better educational system

If we can accomplish these things we will create a more diverse and stable economy that will retain and attract families to stay and live in Wyoming.
It is not a requirement and can be beneficial to have new eyes looking at the problems facing our state. However having some experience as to how the state government works is also beneficial as those individuals still provide a fresh set of eyes on issues but come with a better knowledge base to operate from.
In order to be effective as a legislator you would certainly need to build relationships with everyone that you serve with in order to move legislation through the system.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Wyoming

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
