Michael A. Thompson was a part-time federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of Alaska in Ketchikan, Alaska. He was appointed to this position on November 14, 2008 and his term ended on November 14, 2012.[1]

Biography and Education

Judge Thompson earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Arkansas in 1971 and his J.D. degree from the same university in 1974. He also attended the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada in 1993. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1974 to 1980.[2]

Career

Prior to joining the District Court, Judge Thompson was a judge for the Superior Court in Ketchikan County. He has also served as President of the Alaska Conference of Judges (1996-1997), member of the Alaska Bar Association Board of Governors (1985-1992), and Founding Director of the ALPS Insurance Company (1986-1993).[2]
