I am Dr Brittany Jones and I am running to retain my At-Large seat on Toledo City Council. I was born and raised in the city where I developed a sense of community service and purpose of making a change. Since I was a child, my parents instilled in me the importance of giving back, whether through attending events, joining boards and community groups, or activism for social justice. This also explains my strong nonprofit career, both statewide and local.

My background is a trifecta of nonprofit, academia, and non-profit. My non-profit experience helps me complete more grassroots work, while also connecting with local entities to learn how and what services they provide. My academia and research background allows me to create and assess data that would inform decisions, thus leading to legislation creation. I believe that data is very valuable and tells stories to help me identify gaps and opportunities. Finally, my political experience, although I am a fresher face on the scene, gives me a platform for advocating for social issues, as well as understanding the bureaucratic process to bring about change. My platform includes focusing on equitable housing, education, food access, and economic development.

I love Toledo and I believe in its potential. With hard work, dedication, and a commitment to putting people first, I know that together we can build a stronger, more inclusive Toledo for all.
  • I am not a career politician. I am genuinely in this position to represent the people of Toledo, and strive to be a part of the city’s renaissance era. I do not take this position for granted and want to empower residents to be more involved in their city government.
  • As a mother of three, one of my values is to help people thrive and through this position I am able to achieve that, while also making the city better for families.
  • I am deeply invested in the renaissance of Toledo. The point of being a councilperson is to advocate, educate, and legislate with the people in mind. I plan to continue including the residents by hosting quarterly town halls, attending community meetings and letting them know about legislation that is coming, and answering emails/phone calls.
Food system development and improving food security, advocating for alternative housing to address the shortage and trends of residents, bringing new industries to the area to help retain talent and match the education/training of said individuals, and implementing an early childcare friendly city plan for workers who are affected by the current system's inadequacies.
As a young, Black woman, mother, PhD holder, career woman, and now a government official, I bring a unique perspective to the table. My lived experiences have instilled in me a deep sense of empathy, resilience, and determination to advocate for those who are often marginalized or overlooked in our society.

I want to be an example of how to live a fulfilled life, while also giving back. I also want to bring the conversation of motherhood to the forefront, which would include reproductive rights, better and equitable pre-and postpartum care, mental health care, and other issues. Being a mother is beautiful, yet challenging, and I want to strive for a city that will nurture that role.
I believe that an elected official must understand that they serve the people of the city. It is not a personal agenda, nor should be treated as a way to 'get ahead.' As a local public official, we make decisions that affect residents every day. It is a delicate and honorable responsibility.

I am a lifelong learner who is constantly seeking opportunities to expand my knowledge and skills. Whether through formal education, professional development programs, or community engagement activities, I am dedicated to continuous growth and improvement as a leader and public representative.
