Christopher A. Collins was a circuit judge for the Eighth Judicial District in Mississippi. He was appointed by Gov. Phil Bryant (R) on March 29, 2016, to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Marcus Gordon.[1] He resigned from the bench on January 1, 2020.[2]
Collins was scheduled to run for election on November 7, 2017, but the election was canceled when no other candidates filed to run against him. According to the Mississippi Secretary of State's Office, he will be reappointed by the governor before his current appointment expires.[3][4]
Biography
Collins earned an A.A. from East Central Community College, a B.A. from Mississippi College, and a J.D. from the Mississippi College School of Law.[1]
At the time of his appointment to the bench, Collins was a civil court judge for the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians' Tribal Council. His professional experience also includes work as a domestic violence court judge for the Tribal Court, a prosecutor for Union and Decatur, a felony indigent counsel for the Eighth District, a post-conviction counsel for the Walnut Grove Correctional Facility, and an attorney in private practice.[1]

2017
Mississippi scheduled a special election for local judicial offices on November 7, 2017. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was May 5, 2017, but candidates weren't officially certified for the ballot until after the close of the general qualifying period on September 8, 2017.[5]
Incumbents filed unopposed for all three races. According to the Mississippi Secretary of State's Office, the Eighth Judicial District race was canceled due to lack of opposition and Collins will be reappointed by the governor before his current appointment expires.[4]
