Derrick Ramsey
Derrick Ramsey is the Kentucky Secretary of Labor Cabinet as of December 8, 2015. Governor-elect Matt Bevin announced his appointment of Ramsey on December 2, 2015, before being sworn in as governor.[1] Ramsey is also a Superbowl champion, a distinction shared by very few state executive officials.[2]
Biography
Prior to entering public service, Ramsey had a very successful professional football career. He got his start at the University of Kentucky. Then, from 1978-1987, Ramsey played in the NFL for the Oakland Raiders, the New England Patriots, and the Detroit Lions. In 1981, he won Superbowl XV with the Raiders. After retiring from the NFL, Ramsey worked as an investment manager before returning to his alma mater as a community relations officer. In 1996, he was named the director of development and community relations at the university, where he spearheaded a number of fundraising efforts and charitable programs.
Ramsey's career in public service began in 2004, when he was appointed Deputy Secretary of Commerce by Gov. Ernie Fletcher (R). After Fletcher left office, Ramsey began serving as the director of athletics for Coppin State University. Ramsey remained in this post until his duties as secretary of labor cabinet began.[1][2]
