New Caney Independent School District was the 90th-largest school district in the state in the 2014-2015 school year and served 12,979 students.[1]
About the district
New Caney Independent School District is located in east Texas in Montgomery County. The county seat is Conroe. The county was home to an estimated 556,203 residents from 2010 to 2016, according to the United States Census Bureau.[2]
Demographics
Montgomery County overperformed in comparison to the rest of Texas in terms of higher education achievement from 2011 to 2015. The United States Census Bureau found that 32.2 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 27.6 percent of state residents. The median household income in Montgomery County was $68,838, while it was $53,207 for Texas. The county poverty rate was 10.1 percent, compared to the state's 15.6 percent.[2]

The superintendent of New Caney Independent School District is Kenn Franklin. He was first appointed to the position in April 2009. Franklin previously served as a principal in Athens Independent School District and the superintendent of Marshall Independent School District.[3]

Election dates
The New Caney Board of Trustees consists of seven members who are elected at large to three-year terms.[5] Two seats were on the ballot on November 8, 2016, and two seats were on the ballot on November 7, 2017.

A teacher with a Bachelor's degree earns a minimum of $44,409 and a maximum of $55,795. If the teacher has a Master's degree, $1,000 is added to the compensation and $1,200 with a doctorate.
