Two Watervliet Township Fire Levy Renewal measures were on the May 3, 2011 ballot in the township of Watervliet which is in Berrien County.

Both measures were approved

  • YES 116 Approveda
  • NO 25[1]

Though two questions were on the ballot, both were the same. They sought to renew the current fire levy which is set at a rate of $1 per $1,000 of assessed property value for a further four years in order to continue to pay for fire protection services offered in the township.[2]

Text of measure

The question on the ballot:

Shall the previous voted increase in the tax limitation imposed under Article IX, Sec. 6 of the Michigan Constitution on general ad valorem taxes within Watervliet Township be renewed at 1 mill ($1.00 per$1,000 of taxable value) for the period of 2011 through 2014 inclusive for the township fire protection services; and shall the Township levy such renewal in Millage for said purpose, thereby raising in the first year an estimated $131,180.44 based on 2010 taxable value, taxable value for 2011 not being available until March 2011.[3]
