Biography
Lawton was born in Tucson and graduated from Palo Verde High. He earned a business degree from the University of Arizona and an MBA from the University of Phoenix. He has worked for 25 years in the aviation and aerospace industry and is the campus director at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Worldwide, where he oversees operations and student services at the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.[1]

The city of Tucson, Arizona, held elections for mayor and city council on November 3, 2015. Because only one candidate from each party filed to run, the primary scheduled for August 25, 2015, was called off. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was May 27, 2015, for primary candidates and was September 24, 2015, for general election candidates. Three of the six city council seats were up for election. In the Ward 2 race, incumbent Paul Cunningham (D) defeated Kelly Lawton (R) in the general election.[2]
