Nancy Vaidik is a judge of the Indiana Court of Appeals 5th District. She assumed office on February 7, 2000. Her current term ends on December 31, 2032.

Vaidik ran for re-election for judge of the Indiana Court of Appeals 5th District. She won in the retention election on November 8, 2022.

Vaidik is the chief judge of the Indiana Court of Appeals. She was appointed to the court by former Governor Frank O'Bannon (D) and was sworn in on February 7, 2000. Vaidik was retained by voters in 2002 and 2012.[1][2] Vaidik was chosen by her peers to serve a three-year term as chief judge of the court, beginning on January 1, 2014.[1]

Education

Vaidik received her bachelor's degree from Valparaiso University with a double major in political science and psychology in 1977 and her J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1980.[1]

Career

Vaidik began her legal career as deputy and then chief deputy prosecutor for Porter County, Indiana. She then joined the law firm of J.J. Stankiewicz and Associates, focusing on civil law, including domestic relations, probate, municipal law, and general litigation. She founded the Porter County Sexual Assault Recovery Project in 1985 and worked as the attorney for Caring Place, Inc. from 1990 to 1992. For seven years before her appointment to the Indiana Court of Appeals, Vaidik served as a trial judge in Porter County.[1]
