Campaign themes

2016

Harrington's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Small Business

  • I know firsthand how important small businesses are to our economy—and I know firsthand that it’s not always easy to start a business here. With small businesses employing half of the private sector’s employees, we need to help small businesses grow and thrive so people can lift themselves up economically and create even more good jobs.

Paid Family Leave

  • More than a million Massachusetts families risk losing their jobs if they take time off work to take care of a family medical emergency or after the birth of a new baby. I support efforts to expand paid family and medical leave in Massachusetts so families can support each other through any event necessary, from caring for a declining parent, to welcoming a newly adopted child.

Minimum Wage

  • In Massachusetts, 1 in 6 children are growing up in poverty. It’s time we raise the minimum wage to a living wage so that everyone who works hard can thrive and provide for their families. That’s why I support increasing our state’s minimum wage to $15 an hour.

Public Education / Charter Schools

  • I am a staunch supporter of public education.
  • I am opposed to lifting the cap on the number of charter schools in MA

Reproductive Health Care

  • I am the only candidate in this race who supports and will tirelessly protect a woman’s right to make her own reproductive health care decisions. While the Bay State is a leader in equality in many ways, we are still fighting for health equity for all. So that all women feel safe and empowered to make their own health decisions, I support:
  • Ensure safe access to reproductive health centers
  • Full access to contraception
  • State funding for preventive health services[1]
