May ran in the 2012 election for Massachusetts State Senate Plymouth and Norfolk District. He was defeated by Genevieve S. Davis in the Democratic primary on September 6. Incumbent Robert Hedlund ran unopposed in the Republican primary.[1][2][3]

Campaign themes
2012
May has developed what he calls a "Families First Agenda" which includes granting all workers a minimum number of paid sick days, subsidizing childcare services to working families, and general paid family leave in times of hardship or illness.[4]
Regarding corporations, he states that he supports "amendments to the Massachusetts and United States Constitutions which would end corporate personhood and curb corporate power."[4]
