2016

McCallister's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

  • Growth and sustainability in small business: Wyoming is a conglomeration of small business, and we need to be sure we are properly caring for, and representing our small businesses in Wyoming. We also need to encourage sustainable growth for compatible additional small businesses to join in our state’s economy.
  • Coal, Oil and Gas: The coal. oil and gas industries in Wyoming have laid off thousands of people and some companies are filing for bankruptcy. State tax revenue from the energy industry is in steep decline. Our state cannot change or influence market price moves in oil and natural gas, which are driven by worldwide factors beyond Wyoming’s control.
  • Rural Healthcare: The quality and availability of rural healthcare in our state is less than it should be. While respecting the economic conditions we are currently in, we need to strengthen our rural healthcare system. What is available is not enough by far. The need of our citizens greatly exceeds the healthcare availability in Wyoming. This needs to be done while growing jobs in healthcare, providing other residents with stable good jobs.
  • Medicaid Expansion: Medicaid expansion is not the right solution for Wyoming. In the past, I was cautiously supportive of expansion. However, after a great deal of research, which included access to factual data, it is clear to me that Medicaid expansion is not just a bad idea for Wyoming, it is a terrible idea.
  • Economy: Currently we are facing a recessionary economy in Wyoming. Quite simply people are losing their jobs, businesses are filing bankruptcy, and Wyoming is looking at hundreds of millions in lost revenues at the state level. Wyoming’s financial crisis must be addressed NOW. State government cannot continue to spend what it no longer has. It’s time to re-evaluate where hard earned tax dollars are being spent wisely and unwisely.[7]
