John Jelderks
John Jelderks is a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of Oregon. He was appointed to this position on July 12, 1991, and his current term expired on July 11, 2023.[1]
Early life and education
Judge Jelderks was born in Salem, Oregon. He earned his B.A. degree from Willamette University and his J.D. degree from the Willamette University College of Law. His military exploits include service in the Oregon Air National Guard from 1961 to 1964, service in the U.S. Air Force Reserve from 1964 to 1966, and service in the U.S. Naval Reserve (as a legal officer) from 1966 to 1978.[1]
Career
Judge Jelderks began his legal career in 1964 as a law clerk for Justice Sloan of the Oregon Supreme Court. He worked as a Marion County Chief/Deputy District Attorney from 1965 to 1966. He then became a Hood River County District Attorney. In 1971, he began working as a private practice lawyer. The following year, he became the Presiding Circuit Judge of the 7th Judicial District. He worked in this capacity until he was appointed magistrate judge in 1991.[1]
