Cylenthia LaToye Miller is a judge of the Michigan 3rd Circuit Court. She assumed office on July 24, 2019. Her current term ends on January 1, 2027.
Miller ran for re-election for judge of the Michigan 3rd Circuit Court. She won in the general election on November 3, 2020.
Miller was a judge for the 36th District Court in Wayne County, Michigan. She was appointed to the judgeship on April 10, 2006, and was elected to the seat the following November.[1] Miller was re-elected in 2010 and 2016. Miller resigned from the court in 2019 following her appointment to the 3rd Circuit Court by Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D).[2]
Biography
Miller earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from Wayne State University in 1988 and a [[|Juris Doctor|J.D.]] from Michigan State University College of Law in 1996. Prior to her legal career, Miller worked as an intake specialist, a counselor, and supervisor at Neighborhood Service Organization; a regulatory specialist at the Michigan Credit Union League, a mediator for Wayne County Neighborhood Legal Services, a law librarian at the UAW Headquarters, a legal secretary, and a cadet supervisor and payroll assistant for the Detroit Police Department.[1]
Miller was admitted to the Michigan Bar in 1996 and to the Arkansas Bar in 1997. She is the former director of the Detroit Workforce Development Department. She practiced law at the firms of Lewis & Munday, P.C. and Dykema Gossett, PLLC, specializing in labor and employment law. In 2006, she was appointed to the district court. In 2019, she was appointed to the circuit court She has also worked as an adjunct professor at Baker College of Allen Park since 2012.[1]
