The Alabama Amendments and Laws by Initiative Amendment was a proposed constitutional amendment that was not placed by the Alabama Legislature on a 2016 election ballot.

The measure would have allowed the people to propose laws and constitutional amendments by initiative petition. The measure would have also allowed the legislature to offer alternate proposals.[1]

According to Article 18 of the Alabama Constitution, both houses of the Alabama State Legislature are required to pass the bill by a three-fifths or 60 percent vote, in order to send it to the statewide election ballot. In 2016, the Legislature was in session from February 2 through the middle of May. The legislature did not act on the bill.
