Allen R. Smith is a district court judge in the Thirteenth Judicial District of New Mexico. He was appointed to the court by Governor Susana Martinez on April 11, 2014, to replace retired Judge William Bill Sanchez. Smith assumed office on April 28, 2014.[1][2] He was elected to the court in 2014 for a term that expires on December 31, 2018.[3]

Smith ran for election to the Thirteenth Judicial District Court.
Primary: He was successful in the Republican primary on June 3, 2014, receiving 63.4 percent of the vote. He competed against Paul E. Trujillo.
General: He defeated Joshua J. Sanchez in the general election on November 4, 2014, receiving 51.2 percent of the vote.

Education
Smith received his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University and his J.D. from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1988.[1][2]
Career
Before he became a judge, Smith worked as an attorney in civil private practice for sixteen years. He has also previously served as a criminal prosecutor for ten years. At the time of his appointment, he was a partner at the law firm of Smith & Payne, P.C.[1][2]
