Biography
Anthony Novack was born in Olympia, Washington. He earned a master’s degree from the University of Florida in 2003. Novack’s career experience includes working as a wildlife biologist. He was a Peace Corps volunteer in Honduras from 1995 to 1999 and served as member of the Roslyn City Council.[1]

|Upon completing college, I decided to fulfill my service to the country by joining the Peace Corps which sent me to Central America. I've been back in Washington state for the past 14 years. Five of those years were spent in the small town of Roslyn in Eastern Washington.
I have a Master's of Science degree in Wildlife Ecology and am a former City Councilmen for the town of Roslyn.
If elected, my focus will be to fight the pandemic, support people's health, and fix our economy. Second - I will apply my skills and training to transform political conflicts into collaborations and promote civil society. Third - we will develop a smarter tax system and reduce inequality. Finally - my personal mission is to foster a better way for society to develop in harmony with nature. I propose a green infrastructure program to construct pathways that move wild creatures and people under, or across, roadways without touching pavement. We can build a new relationship between people and nature in Washington- The Pandemic has exposed the frailties of our modern society. We live in a society that that has become increasingly unequal both socially and economically. A vast majority of wealth flows into fewer and fewer hands while the majority fight over the rest at the expense of our environment and future generations. We need a system-wide change for greater equality
- We need government revenue sources to integrated into a system-wide approach for producing the greatest public good. Taxes, surcharges and fees should be designed to reduce harm to society and the environment. To quote E.F. Schumacher - Economist and Author of Small is Beautiful: Economics as if People Mattered " Modern economic thinking..... is peculiarly unable to consider the long term and, to appreciate man's dependence on the natural world"
- We must develop a reliable and trustworthy state government that functions effectively regardless of party affiliation. I have the skills, training and experience needed to bring the tools of peacebuilding and conflict transformation into the legislative process. The neverending political conflicts have put us into a position where we focus on thwarting the other party irregardless of the consequences and, fail to govern inclusively and effectively.
A professional expert in the area of conflict transformation was able to work with constituents resulting in a successful collaboration for developing wolf management. Under her tutelage, they collectively created guidelines for lethal removal of wolves despite their disparate views.
One of my favorite quotes has recently come back into fashion. Roosevelt stated, " It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat."

Follow the priniciple that we only have one planet to live on and, future generations are reliant upon us to provide for their needs as well.
Principle that the role of government is to help the citizens be healthy, happy and strong
Additionally, I have a thorough understanding and practical experience with the process of resolving conflicts and transforming them into collaborations. There exist a myriad of tools and techniques for creating the mental space where people can think beyond their positions and develop creative solutions in tandem with other people of very different mindset. I have applied those tools with individuals and group settings with verifiable success.
Additionally, I think they should strive to improve themselves in a manner that makes them a better elected official.
A system of smarter taxation wherein taxes, fees and surcharges are used simultaneously to support government services and, are applied in a manner that increases the costs of those activities and items that cause harm to society, the environment, and the health of people. Additionally, a system where those who have the greater ability to pay, shoulder a higher burden to help the rest.
Nowadays, I more fully understand how underlying conflicts and identity conflicts can catapult into aggression and violence. The U.S had aggressively meddled into the affairs of Iran and installed the Shah in power many years before the crisis. No effort was made to enter into a peacebuilding process that allowed the less powerful to be treated with dignity and respect to foment collaboration. Instead, the conflict expanded until the Iranian government, that a strong contigent viewed as illegitimate, was overthrown and, our citizens were taken hostage due to the U.S. governments earlier role.
While living as a teenager overseas, in West Germany, I was employed by the Department of Defense as part of a summer student work program. The program hired a large number of kids (I was 14) to work at reduced wages for various roles alongside the uniformed personnel. My position was simply performing warehouse duties and some landscaping with 3 other high school students. My supervisors were local nationals. The position lasted for about 10 weeks, until summer recess ended. Although this position didn't provide much of a challenge nor much in the way of meaningful life skills, it did give me an exposure to the routine and responsibilities that would eventually occur in adulthood.
I love the use of comparative analysis being applied to myths and religion. Individuals have found faith in a wide variety of things. The stories are varied and diverse. It seems like their is something truly revealed in the essence of our humanity and psychology in the stories of myth which are repeated across diverse and disjunct cultures, languages and geography.
This book sits in what I call my "Bible" section.

I heard an interesting analysis of our election and governing process. The proponents offered up the idea that we might get just as good (or better) results from our governing body if we picked our representatives via random draw rather than the election process! I wonder what a bicameral legislative body would look like if one arm consisted solely of citizens drawn randomly from the district pool? It would almost certainly be more diverse than the membership we currently have.
Previous experience in government or politics allows some legislators to have a better understanding of the long-term ramifications of their legislative efforts and, the budget approvals. In general, a diverse array of viewpoints and experiences will provide the conditions for creativity and good legislation. I don't think every legislator needs to have prior governmental experience but, maybe a majority should. I think our current federal government exemplifies the need for our head of state to have prior government experience.
Climate change is the most prominent of all the long-term threats facing us. We have now reached the point where we must work faster to reduce carbon emissions to prevent a global calamaity. A whole host of other issues are impacting our wildlands, fish, and wildlife. These can be dealt with through a more sensible plan for economic and urban development that is more aligned with natural systems.
Washington state has done a pretty good job of making the redistricting process fair and sensible. Hopefully, other states will follow suit.
