I am a native Houstonian, a wife, mother of three grown children and believe deeply in service to others. I have served in leadership positions through various boards and advisory councils. These include, PTO President, Episcopal High School, Church of the Apostles, MAFH, Methodist Hospital and Univ. of Houston.
  • Restore pride in our public schools.
  • Advocate for the kids, family and community involvement.
  • Common sense school choice
I am passionate about restoration of the feeder school pattern, funding for the on-level learners and the effects it has on the majority of HISD student population, particularly for those with disabilities, and school choice for those in need.
Jesus Christ and my parents.

Jesus calls us to serve God, love others and forgive others. Living each day with this as the priority, makes grace in all things much easier to navigate. Drawing on His strength, makes my worries light.

I am made new each day, and that gives me courage.
I am a bridge builder and love working with people. I am able to acknowledge where I can do the most good, and where others can use their gifts.
Budget, Hire principals, connect with the public, and taxpayer advocate.
The win for the USA Olympic Hockey Team and the loss of the Space Craft Challenger.
My very first job was working in retail for Laura Ashley, I worked there for over a year while in High School.
The Bible - Has the answers to EVERYTHING!
The primary job of school board is to serve the public trust. The public trust includes funding sources, community and our children.

We must inform and set good policy and produce viable and measurable outcomes for our schools.

The Trustee is to be the public vehicle to the Superintendent.
My constituents are the citizens of my represented district, but I would also be responsible for the whole of HISD in the shared commitment to excellence.
I have always been a bridge builder, and love to learn about the needs of others. In Houston, we have always had a vibrant and diverse population and working together to solve issues should be priority one.

I know that with an active and productive board of trustees, who place differences aside to get work done, so many needs can be met.

With good policy that encourages the communities to be heard, get involved, have access to opportunities and choice, we can create a more proactive agenda. I also believe, that good teachers need backing and support from the board. Teachers need to know that they have the community on their side.
I already serve in various communities around Houston, but know that with the breath and depth of great stakeholders, it will be vital to dig in and build relationships with the organizations who are serving in the most effective ways. Important to connect with local business, leaders in the communities, parents and education focused groups.
We really need partners from all areas to make this effective.
Poor and broken feeder school pattern.

FIX: Utilize schools that are in trouble due to low population with different models. Private schools are successful in building on K thru 12, or place small magnet options within, that student can rotate into.

Lack of focus and dollars for the on the on-level learners, which also affects those children in special needs education.
FIX: Look at special needs policy and see how to introduce voucher, so families can use that financial resource to meet the needs they encounter for thier family. The on-level students are the largest majority and get the least focus and support, by finding areas where we can enhance the experience and dollars they need, we can raise lots of boats.

Under paid teachers and critical staff.

FIX: Schools need to show they value good teachers and critical staff, as it stands, there are too many staff members that do not directly influence the educations and care for the kids. Pay structures need to be incentised based on classroom outcomes and not by one or two big test. Better to take small accounting , more times in the school year.
Good teaching is teaching that builds on foundations that are constants. Repition, critical thinking, writing, reading, math building and memorization.
The Trivium- Grammar stage, Logic stage and Rhetoric stage.
That under utilized staff would be cut, or task with more. Dollars need to be used to advance teahing above all else.
School safety is vital to a flurishing campus, and we have various tools to use to enhance what is already in government best practices, but, we also need to be able to give the student body a reason to be civic minded. Opportunities for students to prosper school pride, which then makes them partners in the protection.
We have various community supports, like Community in Schools among others. These amazing non-profit orginizations are available and accessible. They offer students and staff the resources they need. You can also have a counselor at school and good hotline options for those who want help and are reluctant to ask.

Train cafeteria staff to see any signs of concern, as they connect with the students in a different and critical capacity.

This would also make for more reason to offer a better wage to those vital employees.
Technology is moving faster than our schools are prepared, equipped and trained for. To keep up in this arena, we may need to seek a better model for high schools.

A central core that all students are able to rotate thru during the semesters, they could be teams and learn to offer the talents they have to the team. This way they are more agile, and new tech can be introduced.
School Choice, vouchers and more parental authority, would offer all families more to work with.
I believe that parents are the best support a school can have, a strong PTO/PTA is vital. I would reach out to any parent leaders, and spend face to face time with them, answer question and quickly address concerns.
