A vote about whether to recall three members of the Charlevoix, Michigan, city council took place on May 7, 2013. All three targeted officials were recalled from office.[1] The recall effort was launched in November 2012.[2][3] The three recalled city council members were Jill Picha, Bryan Vollmer and Dennis Kusina.[4]
Reasons for recall
The three petition sponsors were Julee Roth, Jeffrey Porter, and Gabe Campbell. The petition language faulted the recall targets for their participation in a special meeting on August 9 at which the city council approved construction of a community fireplace in East Park. Recall supporters alleged that the meeting was a violation of the Open Meetings Act. The petition against Picha accused her of failing to enforce a city ordinance regarding the collection of debris from the city’s streets.[3]
