Recall reports

An effort to recall Greg Dunn, Susan Woodruff, Rick Booth, Jayme Morris, Michelle Severson, and Jerry Townsend is underway in Waldport, Oregon.[1]

Recall supporters

Waldport resident Tony Thimakis filed the recall petitions. The reasons given in the petitions for the recall effort include the council's 6-0 vote to remove Waldport Mayor Heide Lambert, allowing the city manager to speak on the council's behalf, dismissing complaints about the city manager without investigating them, preventing the mayor from responding to the concerns of citizens, and that the council "condoned the city manager’s attempts to cause reputational and fiscal injury to residents and groups including slanderous statements, calling employers and filing complaints with various agencies."[1][2]

Recall opponents

According to the Lincoln Chronicle, Townsend said of the recall effort, "I have faith that the citizens of Waldport are going to see what the six of us are made of. …I hope it ends some of this rancor that has been going on for the last seven months or so. I think it may wind up being healthy."[1]

Regarding the council's relationship with the city manager, the Lincoln Chronicle reported that Townsend said, "I’m never going to give up my right to influence what happens in the city as long as I’m on city council," and "That’s what I was elected to do. And that’s what I’m always going to do. I will not bow down or follow somebody blindly because he happens to be city manager. We hire him. We’re his boss. That’s the relationship we have with him."[1]
