Senate Committees

The Culture & Arts Committee is a standing committee of the Hawaii House of Representatives. It was created for the 2011-2012 session, but not reformed for the 2013-2014 session. Prior to 2011, it was a part of the Tourism, Culture & International Affairs Committee. In 2013, the committee's responsibilities were subsumed into the new Veterans, Military, & International Affairs, & Culture and the Arts Committee.

Per the House Rules, Hawaii House of Representatives committee members, chairs, and vice-chairs are appointed by the speaker of the house. Members, chairs, and vice-chairs are provided for by resolution, with the requirement that the composition of the committee is proportional. The majority caucus designates the chair, vice-chair, and majority party members of the committee, while members of the minority caucus designate the minority members of the committee.[1] Committees are assigned at the start of each term.[2] A majority of appointed members make up a committee's quorum.[3] The speaker and vice speaker serve as ex officio members of each committee without the power to vote, except the Committee on Legislative Management where the vice speaker is a voting member.[4]
