Munson ran in the 2012 election for South Dakota House of Representatives District 10. Munson was defeated by Don Haggar and District 15 incumbent Jenna Haggar in the Republican primary on June 5. Barb Kavanaugh and Carmen Toft ran unopposed in the Democratic primary. The general election took place on November 6, 2012. Incumbent Roger Hunt (R) did not run due to term limits. Incumbent Gene Abdallah (R) ran for state Senate in District 6.[1][2]
