Career
Debbie Rich began her work with Lincoln Chafee when Chafee was mayor of Warwick, R.I. and then continued to work with Chafee when he was elected to the U.S. Senate.[2] Rich was a spokesperson for the Rhode Island Department of Motor Vehicles until 2014, when she transitioned to a communications role within Chafee's gubernatorial office.[2]
Lincoln Chafee presidential campaign, 2016
On April 9, 2015, Lincoln Chafee formed a presidential exploratory committee to test the waters for a presidential run.[3] At that point, he did not have any paid staffers, telling Politico, "It’s a volunteer effort at this stage."[4] Chafee announced his presidential run on June 3, 2015.[5] As of June 2015, the campaign itself had not officially announced any staff hirings. However, Debbie Rich had acted as a spokesperson and communications consultant for Chafee throughout the exploratory phase and into the campaign.[6] Chafee dropped out of the race on October 23, 2015.[7]
