When someone hears the name "Dereck Meadows," those who know him well instantly think of one word... "Integrity." In fact, if you've known him for the past few years you probably aren't surprised that he has decided to run for a seat on the Eden City Council. Not afraid to share his opinion nor stand up for what he believes is right, Dereck's goals of transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility are key to a transparent and functional local government.

Raised by a single mother in Eden, a product of Rockingham County School System, Dereck relied on the lessons learned from many great mentors and educators to help guide his development throughout his formative years. After spending 12 years working in the local economy, Dereck was presented the opportunity of learning a trade. For the next 12+ years as a Refractory Mason, Dereck had the opportunity to travel across the nation and other countries. While working nationally or abroad, Dereck not only represents Eden's southern hospitality, he also acquires the knowledge, skills, and understanding that only travel can provide.

While becoming more and more involved in local government over the past decade, Dereck noticed a few reoccurring themes. The voices of some people seemed ignored, the voices of others appeared amplified, and those not involved in the process were typically taken for granted. While originally planning a run in 4 years, Dereck saw the urgency the City of Eden needed NOW. An urgency of accountability, transparency... and most importantly, fiscal responsibility.
