I am a retired water resources engineer with over 40 years experience designing, managing and acquiring water resource projects and programs. I have specific knowledge of Santa Clarita Valley's water supplies that would allow me to address the challenges facing the Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency. I am a licensed professional civil engineer who graduated from California State University Long Beach in 1978. I spent 7 years in the private sector before joining Metropolitan Water District of Southern California where I spent 21 years focusing on administration of their State Water Project supplies and innovative water banking and exchange programs. In 2008 I moved to the Santa Clarita Valley to take a job as the Water Resources Manager at Castaic Lake Water Agency. In 2018, when it merged to form Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency, I took the position as the Director of Water Resources. I have raised my family here and my wife and I are long time supporters of Santa Clarita Valley Family Promise.
  • Experienced leadership will be key to the Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency meeting the challenges of drought and groundwater contamination. I am the only candidate with hands on experience meeting these challenges. As an employee at the Agency I brought on water banking and exchange programs that are currently providing critical dry-year water supplies.
  • Meeting all water quality standards is vital. I support the construction of new facilities to treat PFAS and perchlorate contamination of our groundwater supplies.
  • Balancing water supply reliability along with the environmental values is key to preserving the quality of life in the Santa Clarita Valley. I support the implementation of the Valley's Groundwater Sustainability Plan that continues to provide access to groundwater while protecting groundwater dependent ecosystems.
I am passionate about providing the public with a reliable, high quality water supply at a reasonable price. I support the continued development of a diverse water supply portfolio that is resilient to meet the challenges of climate change, water quality, and a growing population. This will include continued investments in groundwater treatment facilities, recycling waste water for irrigation purposes, new programs to store wet year water for use in dry years, and conservation programs to make sure we are efficiently using existing supplies.
