My name is Dylan Gerard Rice. I'm a 23-year-old progressive Democrat looking to head to Albany with a giant chip on my shoulder.

My least favorite saying in the English language is "It's just the way things are." For too long we have been told that politics is a dirty game and all politicians are self-serving and corrupt. Perhaps nowhere more than Albany sets the example for why politics have such a bad name.

What happened to public servants serving the public?

I decided to run for office after my experiences as a co-founder of the FIT Chapter of College Democrats, my time as Director of Student Advocacy and Chief of Staff for the FIT Student Government Association, and as a Community College Representative in the SUNY Student Assembly.

I realized that my passion was to dispel this notion that politics will always be this cesspool of corruption, and that what it really takes to fix it is folks willing to fight for everyone, rather than themselves.

My priorities are to make New York affordable and to protect New Yorkers in the wake of COVID-19. To see specific policies, please visit dylanriceforny.com
  • Make Long Island and New York work for everyone - Make the state more affordable for everyone, and help the next generation of New Yorkers stay in New York.
  • Infrastructure and Environmental Work - Our infrastructure needs immediate attention and we need to go about it in a way that protects our environment and provides jobs to New Yorkers.
  • Fair COVID-19 Relief - We need to make sure that big business does not get another bailout, and then average New Yorkers are stuck with the bill.

Affordability (Taxes and Cost of Living)
I look up to my folks. They came from extremely humble backgrounds and managed to provide my family with a safe and steady upbringing. They also made sure that we knew that this was the case and explained that not everyone was as fortunate as we were. They helped provide me with both the passion and drive to fight for what I believe in.

As for an example of who I would follow, I have always considered John F. Kennedy an exceptional public servant. Even though he was raised in wealth and luxury, he fought for the common good of all and inspired hope and optimism.
Integrity first and foremost. Far too often elected officials will sell snake oil to their voters just to get into office and sell their influence. I intend to make enemies because my only goal is to help New Yorkers and speak truth to power.

Empathy is also necessary for any elected official to do their job effectively. No one will ever be able to perfectly represent everyone, but they need to be able to hear the concerns of others and effectively use their power to bring about change and progress.
One in which I leave the world a better place than I found it. I don't want my name in the history books, I just want mine and the world's children to breathe clean air, earn fair wages, and live a fulfilling life with no fear. I want to serve the public and prove that there are folks out there who genuinely want to use political power to better society, rather than their own lives.
"To Kill A Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. I credit it for helping me understand prejudice and how it develops, and the best ways to combat it. The story does an amazing job of showing the flaws in the heroes, and the tragic humanity of the villains. It is an amazing read and never ceases to be relevant.
Our recovery from COVID-19, namely the cost that will inevitably fall upon working families and individuals. I want to make sure that our recovery does not break the back of the middle class, and the financial burden is instead shifted onto the ultra-rich.

Dealing with institutional inequality and a lack of accountability for all public servants also needs to be addressed. New York prides itself on its diversity, but we still have a long way to go to make sure that the State works for all of us.

Climate change will have disastrous effects on New York if it is not immediately addressed. I want to make New York the center of a new Green Industrial Revolution to both save our environment, and provide high paying jobs to the people of New York.
Labor, Ethics and Guidance, Health, Higher Education, Consumer Affairs and Protection, Environmental Conservation.
I have the privilege of speaking to and hearing from members of my community while running. One recurring theme is the feeling of being left behind. New York continues to grow in both wealth and political power, but it is reserved for the lucky few of which there seem to be fewer and fewer. It is difficult to get by in my district and wages have not risen to match the cost of living. And, as someone younger than the median age in my district, it is difficult for folks my age to remain here due to the same reasons.
