I am a proud SDSU graduate with a Master’s in Child Development, a Bachelor’s in Child Development, and an Advanced Certificate in Education and Mental Health. My professional background includes working as an early childhood educator and a specialized autism therapist, where I developed a deep understanding of the unique needs of children and families. Today, I work as an affordable energy consultant, addressing the energy crisis and supporting wildfire prevention by helping provide relief to the grid and combat inflation. I’ve lived in Chula Vista for 13 years and attended Otay Ranch High School. My father, who enlisted in the U.S. Navy before I was born and serves to this day, has had a profound impact on my life. His service shaped my pride in American values such as human dignity, equality, and justice. As a recent revert to Islam, I deeply appreciate the freedoms we enjoy, especially the First Amendment, which shapes my commitment to fairness, respect, and compassion for all people.
  • Inclusive Leadership: I am deeply committed to ensuring marginalized communities, especially seniors and low-income families, are prioritized in decision-making. I believe in fostering inclusive policies that provide equitable access to housing, healthcare, education, and social support. As a member of an all-woman consultant team for energy efficiency, I understand the power of collaboration, and I am committed to working with diverse voices to create meaningful change. Everyone deserves dignity and access to resources that allow them to thrive, and I will fight to close the gaps that prevent our most vulnerable from having a secure future.
  • Affordable Energy & Environmental Impact: As an affordable energy consultant, I work directly to address the energy crisis in California, focusing on providing families and businesses access to affordable solar energy solutions. This also ties into my efforts on wildfire prevention, as I help reduce grid strain and increase resilience against climate-related disasters. By combating inflation through practical energy solutions, I contribute to making homes and businesses more sustainable, while supporting California’s long-term commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting clean energy. I’m dedicated to a future where everyone has access to energy that’s both affordable and sustainable.
  • Local Job Creation & Community Support: Having experienced the struggles of being a renter with roommates in a small apartment and commuting for work, I understand firsthand the challenges facing working-class families. I am committed to creating local jobs in District 1 to help reduce the burden of long commutes and improve economic stability for residents. Additionally, I will fight for policies that address housing affordability and ensure that families can live in a community where they can thrive. My focus is on fostering sustainable, community-centered growth that provides opportunities for all, while ensuring District 1 becomes a place of opportunity, security, and well-being for its residents.
I’m passionate about policies that prioritize inclusivity, especially for marginalized communities, such as seniors, low-income families, and people of color. Affordable housing, equitable access to healthcare and education, and mental health support are key issues for me. As an advocate for sustainable energy, I also care deeply about climate resilience and policies that reduce environmental harm while creating green jobs. Finally, I’m committed to creating local job opportunities, reducing economic disparity, and fostering community well-being through equitable and inclusive policy-making.
I look up to individuals like Greta Thunberg, Bill Nye, and Neil deGrasse Tyson, who have dedicated their lives to advocating for science, environmental responsibility, and social justice. Greta, despite her young age, is a powerful reminder that leadership isn’t bound by age. Her commitment to climate action and her ability to mobilize a global movement of young people are incredibly inspiring. She shows that one person’s voice can make a significant impact, even in the face of adversity. Greta’s example motivates younger generations to inherit the responsibility of caring for the environment and influencing policy decisions that affect our future.

Bill Nye’s ability to communicate complex scientific concepts in an engaging way emphasizes the importance of education in shaping public opinion and policy. Neil deGrasse Tyson’s passion for science and his dedication to making it relatable motivates me to seek knowledge and share it with others.

Additionally, figures like Malala Yousafzai, who advocates for education and gender equality despite immense adversity, resonate deeply with my values. Her courage and resilience remind me of the transformative power of education, especially for marginalized communities.

These individuals embody qualities I strive to emulate—passion, resilience, and the ability to inspire positive change. They remind me of the importance of standing up for what’s right, using our voices to challenge injustice, and advocating for policies that prioritize the health and well-being of all people and the planet.
To understand my political philosophy, I would recommend reading The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama. This book reflects my belief in hope, unity, and the power of working together to create a fairer society. Obama’s emphasis on bridging divides, recognizing common humanity, and finding pragmatic solutions resonates with my own approach to politics. It illustrates the importance of leadership grounded in empathy and fairness, focusing on how we can improve lives while respecting individual dignity and promoting justice.

Additionally, The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran offers profound insights into the importance of compassion, justice, and the interconnectedness of all people. Gibran’s exploration of human values, community, and love aligns with my belief in inclusive leadership and policies that uplift marginalized groups, ensuring equal opportunities for everyone.

For film, I would suggest The Pursuit of Happyness, starring Will Smith. It is a powerful portrayal of resilience, determination, and the importance of equal opportunity—values I hold dear. It reflects the core belief that every person deserves a fair shot at a better life, regardless of their background or circumstances.

These works exemplify my political philosophy: prioritizing human dignity, justice, empathy, and practical solutions. They inspire a vision of a more equitable, compassionate society where every individual is valued and empowered to succeed.
Integrity, empathy, and transparency are essential characteristics for an elected official. An official must be honest, trustworthy, and open with their constituents. They should prioritize the well-being of their community over personal interests and act with a strong moral compass. Empathy is key to understanding the diverse needs of the people they serve, ensuring that decisions are made with compassion and consideration for all groups, especially marginalized communities.

Additionally, a commitment to justice is crucial. An elected official must be unwavering in their pursuit of fairness and equality, advocating for policies that uplift all residents, regardless of background. They should listen to the voices of their community, making sure no one is left behind and that everyone has access to opportunities and resources. Strong leadership is not about power; it’s about serving the people with respect, dignity, and a genuine desire to make the world a better place.

Lastly, inclusivity should be at the heart of every decision. By fostering a culture of collaboration, diversity, and open dialogue, an elected official can ensure that every person’s voice is heard and considered. The principle of inclusion drives innovation and ensures that policies reflect the values and needs of the entire community, making it stronger, more connected, and resilient.
I believe my dedication to fairness, empathy, and commitment to community-driven solutions would make me a successful officeholder. I have a strong sense of justice, shaped by my upbringing in a military family, where I learned the value of hard work, accountability, and service to others. My educational background in child development and mental health has given me a deep understanding of the unique needs of individuals and families, particularly marginalized communities. This helps me approach issues with compassion and a commitment to making thoughtful, informed decisions.

My experience as an energy consultant, where I work with families to address the rising costs of energy and contribute to wildfire prevention efforts, has taught me how to navigate complex problems while balancing immediate needs with long-term goals. Additionally, my volunteer work with local masjids and the development of an art curriculum for young children demonstrate my ability to connect with diverse communities and foster collaboration.

As someone who’s lived through challenges like inflation, commuting, and the struggle of renting with roommates, I understand the daily concerns of many residents, especially in District 1. This personal experience allows me to empathize with constituents and work toward practical solutions that address their needs.

I am a problem-solver at heart, driven by a desire to make a tangible impact. My leadership style is collaborative, as I believe in listening to all voices and building consensus to create inclusive policies that benefit everyone. Ultimately, I am committed to advocating for policies that prioritize the well-being, dignity, and future of all residents, particularly those in marginalized communities. These qualities, combined with my passion for service, will enable me to be an effective and compassionate officeholder.
The core responsibilities are to serve the community with integrity, advocate for equitable policies, and ensure the well-being and security of all residents. An elected official must prioritize the needs of the people they represent, especially marginalized and underserved communities. They are responsible for making informed, transparent decisions that promote the public good and foster inclusive growth and opportunity. Accountability is key, as they must be open to feedback, transparent in their actions, and responsive to the concerns of their constituents.

One of the primary duties is to address critical issues such as affordable housing, healthcare, public safety, and education. They must work to eliminate barriers to essential services and ensure that all residents have access to opportunities for a better life. An elected official must be a strong advocate for sustainable policies that balance environmental needs with economic growth, ensuring a resilient and prosperous future for future generations.

Another essential responsibility is to balance the budget and allocate resources effectively, ensuring that taxpayer dollars are spent efficiently to support vital services and community programs. It is also important to ensure that every decision made is grounded in justice and fairness, upholding the rights of individuals and protecting vulnerable populations.

Additionally, an elected official must be a leader who fosters collaboration, working with other lawmakers, community leaders, and organizations to create solutions that benefit all residents. They must be problem-solvers who focus on long-term solutions rather than quick fixes, always with the goal of improving the quality of life for the community they serve.

Ultimately, the core responsibility of an elected official is to represent the people, upholding democratic values, working towards a just society, and leading with a sense of purpose and dedication to public service.
The legacy I would like to leave is one rooted in service, compassion, and meaningful change that positively impacts individuals and communities for generations to come. I want to be remembered as someone who worked tirelessly to address the issues that affect our most vulnerable populations—seniors, low-income families, and marginalized groups—by advocating for policies that promote fairness, equity, and opportunity for all. I want my legacy to reflect a commitment to empowering others, whether through improving access to affordable housing, healthcare, education, or creating job opportunities that reduce economic inequality.

One of the core aspects of my legacy would be a focus on environmental sustainability. I want to be remembered as someone who not only fought to combat climate change but also worked to create communities that are resilient, sustainable, and healthy for future generations. This means advocating for policies that protect our environment while creating green, sustainable jobs, expanding renewable energy options, and investing in infrastructure that helps us prepare for the impacts of climate change. By prioritizing the health of our planet, I aim to ensure a world where future generations can thrive.

Additionally, I want to leave a legacy of inclusivity and leadership that empowers others to take an active role in their communities. I want to be a role model for younger generations, showing them that no matter their age, background, or circumstances, they can make a significant impact. This includes championing the voices of young people, like Greta Thunberg, who have already begun to take the lead on issues like climate change, ensuring they inherit the responsibility of shaping a better future for everyone.

For policy, I hope to leave behind a legacy of transparency and accountability in government, where decisions are made with the community’s best interests at heart and where citizens are actively engaged in the political process.
The first historical event I remember is 9/11. I was four years old at the time, and I was at the clinic on the military base getting flu shots. One of the doctors was crying, but we weren’t sure why at first. My mom then took us to the commissary, but it was closed, and that’s when she was informed of what had happened. My dad, who was in the military, came home early that day. As a revert to Islam, I now recognize how important it is to have accurate media representation of such events, as they can significantly affect how marginalized communities, including Muslims, are portrayed. This experience shaped my understanding of the need for fairness and empathy in how historical events are covered.
My very first job was as a retail worker at The Children’s Place, where I helped customers, managed stock, and provided assistance on the sales floor. I worked there for about a year before transitioning to teaching afterschool programs. This experience taught me valuable skills in customer service, time management, and communication, which helped shape my professional journey moving forward.
This is a hard question! My favorite books often blend thought-provoking ideas with deep emotional connections. In nonfiction, “How Emotions Are Made” by Lisa Feldman Barrett stands out for its exploration of how emotions are constructed by the brain, challenging traditional views and offering a fresh perspective on human behavior. “Other People’s Children” by Lisa Delpit deeply resonated with me, especially as an educator, as it addresses the educational disparities faced by marginalized children. “The New Jim Crow” by Michelle Alexander opened my eyes to the systemic injustices within the criminal justice system, which remains a pressing issue in society.

When it comes to fiction, it’s a toss-up between a few impactful reads. “An American Marriage” by Tayari Jones is a powerful exploration of love, race, and injustice, weaving together complex characters in a way that tugs at your heartstrings. “Parable of the Sower” by Octavia E. Butler speaks to the urgency of climate change and social issues through the lens of a dystopian future, offering profound insights into survival, community, and hope. Finally, “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho is a timeless story of pursuing one’s dreams, with lessons on resilience, destiny, and the interconnectedness of the world.

All of these books have shaped my thinking in different ways, whether about personal growth, societal change, or the emotional underpinnings of human behavior. They encourage deeper reflection and action, making them favorites that I return to often.
If I could be any fictional character, I would choose Uncle Iroh from Avatar: The Last Airbender. His wisdom, kindness, and sense of balance resonate with me deeply. Iroh embodies the idea that true strength comes from understanding, patience, and compassion. His ability to navigate life’s challenges with humor and grace, and his unwavering support for his loved ones, demonstrates an ideal approach to leadership and personal growth.

What I admire most about Iroh is his willingness to learn and grow, no matter his age. He teaches that wisdom isn’t about holding onto power but about knowing when to let go, when to forgive, and how to appreciate the beauty of the present. Iroh’s deep respect for the world around him, whether it’s his love for tea, his understanding of different cultures, or his gentle guidance, aligns with my values of compassion, learning, and making the world a better place, one small act at a time.

His journey from a military leader to a peaceful mentor reminds me that personal transformation and the pursuit of peace are the most profound forms of strength. In a world full of challenges, I’d want to embody Iroh’s ability to approach life with humility and a heart full of love.
During Ramadan, I’ve been intentionally reducing the amount of music I listen to to focus more on the Quran and spiritual reflection. This month is a time for self-discipline and deeper connection, so I’m making an effort to prioritize mindfulness and prayer. However, before Ramadan, the last song that really got stuck in my head was “Too Sweet” by Hozier. It’s a soulful track with such a catchy melody, and it’s one that lingers in your thoughts.

Another song that often plays in my mind is “Strangler Fig” by The Crane Wives. Their music has a blend of folk and indie that’s both soothing and powerful, and I’ve found myself returning to it often. The lyrics are poignant and filled with emotion, making it hard not to get drawn into their rhythms. While I’ve reduced my music intake during Ramadan, these songs still occasionally make their way into my thoughts, serving as a reminder of the power of music and the importance of balance in one’s life.
At 27, I’ve seen firsthand how inflation has impacted my generation. Rising costs for housing, food, and essential goods have made it harder to achieve financial stability. Many of us are facing the reality of stagnant wages while the cost of living increases. The dream of homeownership and financial independence feels more distant than ever, particularly for those of us just starting our careers.

Inflation, combined with student loan debt, creates an environment where young adults struggle to save or invest for the future. This financial strain affects not just our wallets but also our mental well-being. The constant pressure to make ends meet while juggling multiple jobs and dealing with economic uncertainty takes a toll. We’re working hard, but opportunities to truly thrive seem limited compared to previous generations.

The difficulties faced by young people today are structural, making it harder to break the cycle of financial instability. This is why it’s vital that policymakers address inflation and focus on solutions that provide equitable opportunities for all. We need affordable housing, better access to education, and fair wages to build a future where everyone, not just the privileged, can succeed.
Nothing specifically comes to mind at the moment. My playful personality makes me open to humor of all shapes and sizes. Honestly, if it’s complex satire or a simple joke that warrants a good laugh, I’m always here for a good time. Life’s too short to take too seriously, and I believe a bit of humor can create connections and lighten even the heaviest of moments. So, no matter the style, I’m all in for a good laugh!
Financial transparency and government accountability are essential for maintaining public trust and ensuring that government actions align with the needs and values of the people it serves. I believe that transparency in budgeting, spending, and financial decision-making is critical for fostering an informed public and holding elected officials accountable for how taxpayer dollars are spent. Public access to clear, detailed financial information enables citizens to track government performance, assess whether public funds are being used effectively, and ensure that resources are allocated to the most pressing issues facing the community.

Government accountability goes hand-in-hand with transparency. Elected officials and public agencies must be held responsible for their decisions, and they should face consequences when they fall short of their duties. This includes ensuring that funds are used efficiently to support vital services such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure. It also means being answerable to the people when it comes to failures, delays, or poor management of resources.

I support policies that promote open financial reporting, regular audits, and independent oversight. These measures ensure that all government spending is justified and that inefficiencies or misuse of funds are identified and addressed. Additionally, fostering a culture of transparency within government agencies is key to preventing corruption and building public confidence in the system.

Ultimately, financial transparency and government accountability are fundamental principles that safeguard the democratic process. They allow for informed decision-making, equitable resource distribution, and stronger connections between elected officials and their constituents. As a leader, I would prioritize these values, working to ensure that government actions are open, ethical, and focused on the public good.
