I'm running because I want a School Board that responds to the needs of students, families, and teachers in our district-not one that gives more weight to the demands of individuals and groups from outside our district, people who have no personal stake in the education we offer to our community. I'm running because as the parent of an elementary student in the district, I have borne witness to the failures and the successes of our schools, and I want to be part of building on those successes. I'm running because our school district must serve the needs of all of our students, including those who have historically been left behind. I'm running because I want to give our teachers and support staff the tools, resources, and support necessary to build upon the gifts and talents of each student in their care.
  • I want to give families, students, and teachers more of a voice with the school board.
  • Our school board needs to develop clear policies to ensure equity for all students.
  • We need to consider the needs of students outside of school and work to help then access resources that will allow them to be more successful in school.
I strongly believe we need to implement "wraparound" schools which connect students with resources in the wider community. This community-based approach brings together current programs in an easily accessible way that allows students to spend more time concentrating on school.
