Three seats were up for election on the Frederick County School Board on November 5, 2013. Unopposed incumbents Peggy Clark, John Lamanna and Frank E. Wright retained their Redbud, Shawnee and Stonewall District seats, respectively.

Frederick County Public Schools is located in Frederick County, Virginia. Frederick County is home to 81,319 residents, according to the 2011 Census.[1] In the 2011-2012 school year, Frederick County Public Schools was the 21st-largest school district in Virginia and served 13,035 students.[2]

Demographics

As of 2013, the United States Census Bureau found that 27.5 percent of Frederick County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 35.2 percent for Virginia as a whole. The median household income in Frederick County was $68,424 compared to $63,907 for the state of Virginia. The poverty rate in Frederick County was 7.1 percent compared to 11.3 percent for the entire state.[1]

Method of board member selection

The Frederick County School Board consists of seven members who serve four-year terms. Six of those members serve by magisterial districts, and one serves at-large. FCPS did not hold a primary election, and the general election was held on November 5, 2013. Though the board is officially partisan, all current members as of 2013 ran as independents.[4]
