We love our schools and community, and I have always loved working with and for children. Serving on the board is another way I can give back to our community.
As a mom, an educator, and someone who has attended almost every STMA School Board meeting since 2011, I have a vested interest in our schools and am uniquely qualified to serve on the board.
During my years of service on the school board, I have: • always made students my first priority. • balanced the interests of students, staff, families, & taxpayers with fiscal responsibility. • supported implementation of three of my priorities: transparency, more recess & lunch time, & fewer standardized tests. • advocated for equitable funding & local control. • considered issues thoughtfully & fairly while listening to all stakeholders & the info presented; shared info openly & honestly. • served on numerous committees & attended many PTO meetings for the schools in our district. • coordinated the “Positivity Project,” adding 101 positive messages in three of our schools. • volunteered in many classrooms & at numerous school events for 13 years.
• formed School Supplies for STMA (2016) & co-founded Project Pencils (2018) to provide school supplies for more than 3,600 students in need.- I have always made students my first priority. My primary goal is to ensure they receive an excellent education and enjoy their years in STMA Schools. This is done by balancing the interests of students, staff, families, & taxpayers with fiscal responsibility. I consider issues thoughtfully and fairly while listening to all stakeholders and the info presented. I have been a longtime advocate for transparency: I openly and honestly share info. I supported the implementation of three of my priorities: transparency, more recess and lunch time, and fewer standardized tests.
- In order to ensure that STMA continues to offer a world-class education with excellent staff, we (the board and everyone in our district) need to keep advocating with legislators to fix the state’s unfair funding formula and aid for the 21st Century.
- I truly care. I don't sit on the school board, I SERVE on it and work hard to help our schools, students, staff, and community.
I love volunteering in our schools, organizing food for staff on conference nights, helping provide school supplies for students in need, attending many concerts, cheering on our teams, attending events, subbing in our schools, and donating items.
I have also served on the Special Education Advisory Committee, District Advisory Committee, Policy Review Committee, Legislative Action Committee, Hall of Fame Selection Committee, Activities Review Board, and several negotiations committees, and attended many PTO meetings at schools in our district.
I have been a licensed family childcare provider and preschool teacher for 19 years. I have taught and assisted in many classrooms (all grades) and school-age care programs. I have extensive experience working with children with special needs as a para in a special education classroom, as a private therapist, and in my preschool/childcare. I am a trainer for early childhood and school-age professionals (14 years) and earned a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education.
