J. Ross Dyer is a judge of the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals Western Section. He assumed office on April 18, 2016. His current term ends on September 1, 2030.

Dyer ran for re-election for judge of the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals Western Section. He won in the retention election on August 4, 2022.


Dyer was appointed to this court by Republican Governor Bill Haslam on March 31, 2016, and confirmed by the state legislature on April 18, 2016.[1][2] Dyer's appointment filled the vacancy left by Justice Roger A. Page, who was elevated to the state supreme court in February 2016.[3] Dyer faced and won retention by voters in 2016 in order to complete the term of his predecessor.[4]

Education

Dyer received his bachelor's degree in business administration with a minor in economics from Millsaps College in 1995 and his J.D. from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 1998.

Career

First Court of Criminal Appeals nomination

Dyer was previously selected in 2011 by the Tennessee Judicial Nominating Commission as one of three candidates to replace the late Judge J.C. McLin, who passed away in September 2011. Governor Bill Haslam interviewed Roger A. Page, J. Ross Dyer, and J. Robert Carter and selected Roger A. Page in December 2011.
