I have lived in Robbinsdale since 2007 with my wife of 20 years. We have two teenage children, both of whom have attended Robbinsdale Area Schools. I love our city, and want to support the things that make us unique. As someone who has been on the Planning Commission and is currently on the Community Advisory Committee for the Blue Line Extension, I have experience listening to residents and representing their differing ideas and opinions effectively. Through my years of experience working with city staff, city council, local businesses, the county, and additional stakeholders, I understand how the city operates and how to get things accomplished. I have worked in technology sales for over 15 years, building relationships and leading teams to consistent success. I will always work to do what’s best for Robbinsdale and the residents of Ward 2.
  • Stand up for Robbinsdale with regard to the Blue Line Extension. As much as everyone would prefer the light rail be in the rail corridor, the project is moving forward on Bottineau Blvd. There are a plethora of valid concerns that need to be addressed. It is very likely this project gets built, so we need to vote no on Municipal Consent and ask for amendments to the current plan. If we just say no without amendments or ask for Bus Rapid Transit we'll lose our ability to negotiate for the city. We can't let this get built without our involvement and no one will fight for the people of Robbinsdale to get our concerns addressed.
  • Bring new ideas and creativity to address pedestrian and traffic safety. We need to update the crosswalks at Sanborn Park, with flashing lights activated by a button to help with crossings when it's dark. We need to utilize traffic calming measures to help slow drivers down. We can have Community Service Officers watch intersections and serve as a deterrent to people who don't stop. With the updates at France & 36th Ave, the intersection at 36th & Bottineau was changed for drivers heading west towards Highway 100. The right lane should be only for turns, not to go across Bottineau Blvd.
  • We need to continue our fiscally responsible initiatives as a city government. For example, we have important decisions to make around Robbinsdale Wine & Spirits. We just went through a large increase in our utilities, but we needed a new water tower and treatment facility. Some of the infrastructure that was replaced was over 100 years old. We shouldn't take on the additional expense to build a new community center right now, rather I would work with neighboring communities to lower prices Robbinsdale residents pay to access their facilities. It's important to have community conversations and have everyone involved in the decisions that impact our city.
I feel that it's extremely important that the voices of our community are heard. Robbinsdale is a relatively small city in the metro, and I don't think everyone realizes the impact they can have by working with the City, be it staff or the council. I want to support our independent small businesses and historic downtown, incentivizing residents to start new businesses. We need to save our historic water tower as an icon for Robbindale throughout the Twin Cities. I also support the work the city has done to help residents be more energy efficient, I think we need to continue engaging our commercial and industrial sector, who make up 5% of premises in Robbinsdale but represent 39% of total energy consumption.
I am a big fan of Scott Galloway. He sets an amazing example of being a male role model. He focuses on empathy, responsibility, and supporting others. He has been successful but realizes that greatness is in the agency of others. I also like his insights and his willingness to admit when he misses the mark.
The most important characteristics for an elected official are honesty, transparency, and to be an effective communicator. Not just in sharing information and finding ways to educate the community, but listening to constituents. Whether its concerns or excitement, listening to residents is the only way to serve our community effectively. Even if those viewpoints are different than your own as a candidate, you have to take those differing opinions into account as decisions are made. Elected officials don't only represent the people they agree with or who voted for them, they represent everyone.
I think my ability to have tough conversations and openness to different viewpoints will help me be successful as an officeholder. While I have opinions and can defend them, I relish the opportunity to have discussions and understand opinions and experiences that are different than my own. The more people talk to one another and build relationships of trust, the better Robbinsdale becomes. While it doesn't mean everyone will agree, it helps our community to have as many voices heard as possible.
I mowed lawns in my neighborhood growing up. I did that most summers all the way through high school.
This office should be held by someone who has experience helping the people of Robbinsdale. Someone who has relationships with residents, city staff, and government officials who represent Robbinsdale. Whoever holds this office should have leadership experience and who has been a voice for our community. Someone who has represented differing viewpoints effectively and respectfully, without taking sides. Someone who can bring people together, explain the issues facing our city without inflaming divisions.
Our entire system of government is built on checks and balances, with a free press to hold officials and agencies accountable. I believe it's of the utmost importance for the city to have financial transparency to its residents.
