An effort to recall Mayor John Morrison did not go to a vote in Kimball, Nebraska. Recall organizers did not submit enough signatures to put the recall on the ballot.
Recall supporters
The recall was organized by Kimball resident Ron Buchart. In his recall petition filings, Burchart cited the following grounds for recall: concerns about the tax levy, potential conflicts of interest, delays in replacing a resigning city council member, the mayor’s treatment of concerned citizens, and failure to represent the needs of Kimball residents.[1]
Recall opponents
News Channel Nebraska reported that Morrison's public rebuttal to the recall stated that the City Council passed the new city levy after several budget meetings, he had no conflict of interests, and he consulted with the Nebraska attorney general to receive approval for additional time to replace the resigning city council member.[1]

No specific grounds are required for recall in Nebraska.[2] The number of signatures required to put the recall on the ballot depends on the office type. A majority of offices require signatures equal to 35% of the total vote cast for that office in the last general election.[3] Petition signatures must be filed within 30 days of the filing clerk issuing the petitions.[4]
Recall organizers were required to submit at least 280 valid signatures to put the recall on the ballot. On December 13, 2024, Burchart announced that petitioners were about 90 signatures short of the requirement.[5]
