Campaign themes
2014
Dillon's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]
Jobs
- Excerpt: "Joe Dillon is running with a simple pledge to Westchester families: If it doesn’t help create a job, if it doesn’t make life more affordable for Westchester families, or if it doesn’t improve the quality of education for our students, he won’t vote for it."
Ethics
- Excerpt: "Get career politicians out of Albany. Enough is enough! It’s time we had term limits for the Governor and executive branch, Senators, Assembly members and legislative leaders."
Education
- Excerpt: "Kill Common Core. Joe's opponent voted for and stood-by the failed roll out of Common Core standards which have proven to be a disaster for students, teachers and parents. It's time to end the "one size fits all model" and restore a system that includes a set of standards and testing that are set and controlled locally with input from the stakeholders that count-people like you."
Taxes and Mandates
- Excerpt: "Create responsible budgeting practices. For too long Albany lawmakers have used budgetary gimmicks to create a budget. We must stop using windfall settlements, “one-shots” and funding sweeps (robbing Peter to pay Paul, like using the Clean Water Fund to build a bridge) to balance the books. The state should adopt the use of Generally-Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for its budget and enforce a State spending cap."
Equality
- Excerpt: "End policies that restrict opportunity for our most needy and vulnerable citizens. We must stop balancing the budget on the backs of seniors and the disabled by preventing cuts to the Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage (EPIC) program."
