Why are you running for office? As a parent and lifelong resident who has previous experience serving on the county board, I wish to bring a fresh perspective to the challenges facing our district. It is important to have many voices representing the community on our school board. Currently, only one board member has children enrolled in the district. I believe more parent voices will be beneficial. Government experience: Outagamie County Board for two years; city of Kaukauna Department of Public Works employee for 17.5 years; Kaukauna Fire Department paid on-call firefighter for 17 years. What do you think are the key issues facing the community? One major issue is open enrollment. This issue has resulted in an annual loss of almost $5 million dollars for the district. This is a top priority that needs to be addressed. We must figure out why some community members are choosing to open enroll out of the district and how we can become more competitive with nearby districts. We will need to highlight all the positive aspects of our district as well as embrace a willingness to make changes that make us more competitive. The second priority is school safety. In this day in age, this topic continues to be a top priority for all schools. The safety of our students and staff needs to be continually reassessed. It is important we are providing facilities that are technologically advanced and procedures that provide effective guidance. We also need to make sure staff are properly trained and appropriate security systems are at all school entrances. What do you hope to accomplish, if elected? I hope together we can effectively solve the enrollment deficit and review and improve school safety throughout the district. I want to work with all stakeholders to ensure we bring all voices to the table, so we can make our district the best it can be.[1][5] |
