Campaign themes
2014
Hemphill highlighted the following goals on her campaign website:
| “ | I’m asking for your support to be re-elected to the Berkeley School Board. I’m proud to say that virtually all of our elementary and middle schools surpass state standards for excellence and Berkeley High’s reputation for excellence continues to build. Careful stewardship of State and local funding has kept our schools financially sound and family/community partnerships are growing in support of student success. The recently adopted community based student achievement plan (LCAP) will ensure that our schools exceed current excellence and attain our equity goals.
If re-elected, I will focus on furthering high academic standards and supporting art, music and socio-emotional programs; establishing a strong career/technical program to provide real options for students; and accelerating efforts to bridge the opportunity gap in education. All of our students should receive a fundamentally sound and challenging education so that within two years of high school graduation, they are ready to enter their junior year of college or while being college-ready have completed a technical certificate or apprenticeship ready to make a livable wage. I’ve established a reputation as thoughtfully hearing all voices before making decisions. My proven leadership and experience will be valuable in continuing our progress to become a world class district – supporting each student to be globally competitive and ready to live a fulfilled, productive future.[9] |
