The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was May 19, 2015. All 13 city council seats were up for election. In the District 7 primary, incumbent Tito Jackson and Charles L. Clemons Jr. advanced past Kevin A. Dwire, Haywood Fennell Sr., Althea Garrison and Roy Owens.[1][2] Jackson defeated Clemons in the general election on November 3, 2015.[3]
