|Kyle is engaged in the community: -AAU Cares: Kyle has been involved with AAU Cares for over 10 years. One thing that was dear to Kyle was the work with Feeding Children Everywhere. We pack meals for over 50,000 people annually.
-Roger Goudy Scholarship: after Dr. Roger Goudy passed away our family set up a scholarship fund in his honor. We are proud to give out thousands of dollars in scholarships every year. Kyle has pledged to donate a portion of the salary to two students from each High School in the District that he serves.
-The Verb Kind: this group has a program called "Come to Jail with Me." Kyle is proud to serve as a part of the mentor group that visits the Orange County Juvenile Hall. Many of the kids ask for prayers and often times all they want is a hug.- In total, Kyle has 15+ years of experience working with kids in different capacities. Kyle is uniquely qualified to be our next District 4 School Board Member because of his experience in both Education and Business. No other candidate has experience working with large groups of kids like Kyle does. OCPS has over 200,000 Students and the experience Kyle has working with groups of this size that manage complex budgets will serve him well. See below to find out more about Kyle's experience.
- After graduating from the Patton College of Education, Kyle acquired a variety of classroom experiences in the public education system, ranging from teaching to coaching a JV Basketball team. At that time, Kyle was able to work across different departments and learn from veteran teachers. Kyle has a deep compassion for teachers and all they do for kids; and the daily challenges they encounter.
- Kyle helped to structure a partnership that allowed 300,000+ Students to learn about the academic, enrollment & financial requirements for college admittance. This program also connected the Student-Athletes with College Coaches. Kyle was also in charge of administering the Presidential Youth Fitness Program, otherwise known as PYFP. Many of you may have participated in this program in the past (Pacer Test and PYFP Patches for completing the program). Kyle and his team were able to develop a remote learning based exercise program that children and families were able to use during the pandemic. This program is still active in 6,000+ schools nationwide.
2.)Manage the budget in a fiscally responsible way. Everyone always talks about the revenue side of a budget but rarely do you hear people talk about the expense management side. We need to spend the money wisely so that we can put as many resources into supporting all OCPS staff as possible.
3.) Make sure that we are representing the community's values, views, and desires for the public schools.
4.) Negotiate fairly and honestly with The Union.
5.) Control school property, adopt enrollment and zoning plans, maintain the school year schedule.
Continual training: making sure that students and teachers do regular training for the variety of threats that can face a school, Fire, active shooter, tornado, hurricane to name a few.
We need to fix the bus driver shortage. Increases compensation and different marketing techniques could help with this.
Bob McKinley - Windermere Elder Affairs Committee - Former Town Councilman
Iliana Ramos Jones - Winter Garden City Commissioner - District 2
CFHLA - the largest regional hospitality association in the United States
1. Windermere HS Athletic Facilities being built offsite: after the County Commission voted to build this offsite in 2015, they have finally reversed this decision. The primary reason was residents concerned with traffic and noise. This second stadium will cost taxpayers an additional $3 million for what could have been done right the first time. When I was at AAU, we had an eerily similar situation with our building as we went through the approvals process. There were neighbors of our build site who had very similar concerns. We took the time in the public meeting and individually with residents to come up with a plan that worked for everyone. This allowed us to get the approval to build without wasting time or money.
