William Lee Fergus was the Division 2 judge of the Second Circuit in Arkansas. He was appointed to Division 10 by Republican Governor Mike Huckabee in 2001 and was elected to Division 2 the following year.[1][2]

Fergus' election came amidst a lawsuit claiming that he was ineligible to serve in one division after being appointed to another division. The Arkansas Supreme Court ruled unanimously in his favor, judging him qualified for election.[3]

Fergus successfully ran for re-election to the Second Circuit in the nonpartisan judicial election held on May 20, 2014.[4][5] His term was set to expire in 2020, but he passed away on July 20, 2015, at the age of 66.[6]

Education

Fergus has earned two undergraduate degrees from Westminster College. He received his J.D. from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He is also a graduate of New Mexico Military Institute, which he attended from 1963 to 1966. He completed some graduate work as well, at the University of Missouri.[7][8][9]

Military service

From 1975 to 1986, Fergus was a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve.[9]
