Three seats on the Liberty Public Schools school board were up for general election on April 8, 2014. Incumbents Kim-Marie Graham, Lori Tritz, and Angela Reed defeated Jesse Leimkuehler, Don Hubbs, and Bruce Cantwell. Incumbent Bren Abbott did not file for re-election.

Liberty Public Schools is located in Clay County, Mo.

Liberty Public Schools is located in northwest Missouri in Clay County. The county seat of Clay County is Liberty. Clay County had a population of 230,473 residents, according to the United States Census Bureau in 2014.[1] In the 2011-2012 school year, Liberty Public Schools was the 18th-largest school district in Missouri and served 11,327 students.[2]

Demographics

In 2013, Clay County had a higher percentage of residents with a bachelor's degree compared to the state overall. The United States Census Bureau reported that 30.6 percent of residents aged 25 and older in the county had earned a bachelor's degree, compared with 26.2 percent for Missouri. The median household income in Clay County was $60,936, higher than the state median of $47,380. The poverty rate in the county was 9.0 percent, compared to 15.5 percent for Missouri as a whole.[1]

Voter and candidate information

As of the 2014 election, the Liberty school board consisted of seven members elected at large to three-year terms. There was no primary election and the general election was held on April 8, 2014, for three seats.

Candidates began to file affidavits of candidacy on December 17, 2013. The filing deadline for school board candidates to get on the ballot in the general election was January 21, 2014, and the deadline for candidate certification was January 28, 2014.[4]

On March 27, 2014, the Liberty Tribune endorsed Kim-Marie Graham, Lori Tritz, and Angela Reed for the board.[5]
