Lisa Hopkins was an interim auditor of West Virginia. As auditor, Hopkins served as the state's official bookkeeper and chief inspector. She also supervised public offices, the securities commissioner, and the commissioner of delinquent and non-entered lands. She was appointed auditor by Governor Earl Ray Tomblin, effective May 15, 2016.[1] Hopkins replaced longtime auditor Glen Gainer, who resigned on May 14, 2016.[2]

The filing deadlines already passed at the time Hopkins was appointed, making her ineligible to run for election to a full term in 2016.

Hopkins began working in the office of the West Virginia auditor in 1999. In 2001, she became the office's general counsel and the deputy commissioner of securities. She remained in those positions until being appointed interim auditor in 2016.[1]

West Virginia State Auditor (2016-2017)

Hopkins served as West Virginia's interim state auditor in 2016. She was appointed by Gov. Tomblin to replace Glen Gainer, who resigned on May 14, 2016, in order to take a job in the private sector.[2] Hopkins did not run for auditor in the 2016 elections. She was replaced in 2017 by the winner of the statewide election for auditor, John B. McCuskey (R).[1]

Upon appointing Hopkins to the position of auditor, Gov. Tomblin said, "Lisa is a talented public servant and will serve the state, its businesses and citizens well throughout the remainder of this year."[3]
