What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
Reinvesting in our public schools. Providing economic opportunity through a fair tax system, the availability of jobs that offer a living wage, and accessible healthcare for all Wisconsinites. Redistricting legislative maps that are unbiased and configured by a non partisan, third party entity.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I am passionate about education, healthcare, and worker protections/rights.
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Integrity, the ability to listen and to learn as a result, the ability to collaborate, and critical thinking are qualities necessary for an excellent legislator.
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
I am a good listener and an excellent team player. I believe that bringing others to the table increases the chances of solving a problem or maximizing an opportunity. I am not one for giving up and am able to look at problems from a variety of angles to find a solution.
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
An elected representative must be able to legislate through connecting with constituents to find out what needs, concerns, and fears they have. It is crucial to remember that our communities and their citizens must be the top priority.
What legacy would you like to leave?
I would like to leave the legacy of fair legislative districts that are not drawn at the whim of any political party.
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
I was a grocery store clerk beginning in high school and kept that after school job until I left my hometown for college.
If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be?
I'd like to be Scout Finch from To Kill A Mockingbird. She was inquisitive, questioned the status quo, brave, and defied convention.
Do you believe that it’s beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in government or politics?
As long as first time state legislators have experience that makes them knowledgeable about their communities, the concerns of citizens, and a drive to serve, I do not think that previous governing experience is necessary.
What do you perceive to be your state’s greatest challenges over the next decade?
We need to build a sustainable transportation plan to fix our roads and shore up our infrastructure. Creating a fair tax system that allows working families and small businesses to thrive and bringing back consistently adequately funded public schools are necessary as a means to reinvest in our Wisconsin communities. We must also ensure that access to affordable healthcare in our state is a right for all.
What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and the state legislature?
The ideal relationship is for the governor to work with legislators from both parties in a way that fosters bipartisan legislation to address the needs of our state, its communities, and its citizens.
Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.
I believe that building working relationships with co-workers in general is beneficial. Legislators having good working relationships benefits the legislative process, and this includes working with fellow legislators across the aisle.
What process do you favor for redistricting?
I favor a third party, non partisan redistricting body. Legislators should not take part in the redistricting process.
