Kelso's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Jobs and the Economy In New York State, over 51% of all non-farm private sector jobs are derived from small business employment. New York's small businesses, which employ an average of 9 people each, are truly the backbone of the state's economy. Sadly, at the same time so many are toiling away to make their small companies successful, the business climate in our state is rated as the absolute worst in the nation. I will fight for less government intervention with small businesses - especially to eliminate the burden of excessive taxation and unfunded mandate demands that hit the small business owner especially hard - and will strongly promote the free-market trade systems we already have in place. Ethics Reform in Albany We need to elect leaders who will stand up for our taxpayers and demand reform in Albany. I will push for legislation that requires that public office holders who are convicted of ethics violations be held fully accountable for their actions. Breeches of trust by taxpayer-funded public officials must be dealt with promptly, judiciously, and in the full light of day. Veteran's Issues & Disabled Individuals' Rights Often, the disabled and their caregivers cannot speak up for themselves. It is important for us to take up their cause as our own and search for innovative ways to assist this growing population. Education/Common Core Common Core was, and still is, a disaster. With more Common Core changes looming, we must keep fighting for the integrity of our local schools. The relentless over-testing of students and the convoluted system of teacher evaluation that Common Core has brought must be halted. We must also seek to address the issue of fair funding of upstate schools as a statewide concern. Full Repeal of the NY SAFE ACT As a concealed pistol permit holder in 39 states, there is no issue more important to me than the full repeal of the NY SAFE Act. This law infringes on our Second Amendment rights as guaranteed to us by the U. S. Constitution. As the recipient of an A-rating by SCOPE and NYSRPA, rest assured that I will be a staunch supporter of 2nd Amendment rights throughout the state.[1] |
