An effort to recall Marion L. "Mike" Elliott from his position as sheriff of Multnomah County, Oregon was launched after several newspapers revealed Elliott had lied about being a war hero and former football star. He was successfully recalled in 1949 by a vote of 59,000 to 44,000.[1][2]
