Biography
Misty Irby was born in Dallas, Texas, and lives in McKinney, Texas. She earned an associate degree in paralegal studies from Collin County Community College in 2012, a bachelor's degree in legal studies and alternative dispute resolution from the University of North Texas in 2014, and a master's degree in social justice from Southern Methodist University in 2017. Irby’s career experience includes working as a risk analyst with Bank of America, CUNA Mutual Group, Fiserv, and Jack Henry & Associates. She volunteers as the membership chairperson of the Women Organizing Women Democrats in North Texas, which describes itself as "dedicated to expanding the participation of women in politics."[2][3]

Selection method
The members of the Texas Justice of the Peace Courts are elected in partisan elections and serve four-year terms. They are elected in a precinct-wide election.[4]
To serve as a justice of the peace, justices must complete a 40-hour course on relevant duties within one year of his or her election. They must also complete a similar 20-hour course each year they continue to serve.[5]
