Three seats were up for election on the Montgomery County Public School board on November 5, 2013. District A was filled by unopposed newcomer Gunin Kiran while incumbent Jamie M. Bond triumphed over challenger Tom Zuckerwar for the District D seat. No candidates filed for District C, leaving the seat vacant.
About the district
Montgomery County Public Schools is located in Montgomery County, Virginia. As of the 2010 Census, the county was home to 96,207 residents.[1] In the 2011-2012 school year, Montgomery County Public Schools was the 29th-largest school district in Virginia and served 9,610 students.[2]
Demographics
Montgomery County outperformed the rest of Virginia in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 42.4 percent of Montgomery County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 35.2 percent for Virginia as a whole. The median household income in Montgomery County was $45,543 compared to $63,907 for the state of Virginia. The poverty rate in Montgomery County was 24.5 percent compared to 11.3 percent for the entire state.[1]

Method of board member selection
The Montgomery County School Board is composed of seven members who represent each of the seven voting districts in Montgomery County. They serve four year terms that are staggered.
