Norma Ruiz (Democratic Party) was a judge of the New York Supreme Court 12th Judicial District. She assumed office in 2000.

Biography

Education

Ruiz received her B.S. degree from Queens College of the City University of New York in 1975 and her J.D. degree from Fordham University School of Law in 1981.[1]

Career

Ruiz began her career in 1981 as a supervising attorney of The Legal Aid Society. In 1996, she became a New York court attorney in the trial part. The following year, she was elected to the New York City Civil Court. She served on that court until 2006. Ruiz began serving as a Supreme Court Justice in 2000.[1][2]

2013 election

Ruiz ran for re-election to the Supreme Court 12th Judicial District. General: She was elected in the general election on November 5, 2013, with 23.7 percent of the vote. Laura G. Douglas, Kevin P. Kuehner, Julia I. Rodriguez, Larry S. Schachner, Robert D. Siano and John H. Wilson were also on the ballot, competing for three open seats.[3][4][5][6]
