Elections
2016
Heading into the election, Ballotpedia rated this race as a race to watch. It was previously rated as a battleground, but due to court-ordered redistricting, the seat became much more Democratic. Incumbent David Jolly (R) sought re-election in 2016. He initially planned to pursue a U.S. Senate bid, but he dropped out of the race in preparation for incumbent Marco Rubio's entry. Jolly was defeated by former Governor Charlie Crist (D) in the general election on November 8, 2016. Jolly defeated Mark Bircher in the Republican primary on August 30, 2016.[3][4][5][6][2][7]
