Burton ran for re-election for the Department C judge of the Nevada 8th Judicial District Court Family Division. She won in the general election on November 3, 2020.

Burton retired from the Nevada 8th Judicial District Court Family Division in January 2023.[1]

Primary: She was successful in the primary on June 10, 2014, receiving 34.4 percent of the vote. She competed against Marsha Kimble-Simms, John Hall Howard, Jr., Lynn Hughes and Michele Mercer.
General: She defeated John Hall Howard, Jr. in the general election on November 4, 2014, receiving 65.4 percent of the vote. [2][3]

Education

Burton received her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in 1980 and her J.D. from the University of California Hastings College of the Law in 1992.[4]

Career

Prior to her election to the bench, Burton worked as a family law attorney in private practice. She was approved in 1997 by the family court to sit in the past as a pro tem domestic violence hearing master, and she has participated in various speaking engagements from 1996 to 2012. She was also appointed by the state supreme court in 2012 to serve as a mentor in the "Transitioning into Practice" (TIP) program.[5][4]
