Jenkins has been in the N.C. Department of Public Safety’s local division for 25 years. He supervises Nash, Edgecombe, Pitt and Wilson counties. He has three children who attend district schools.[1]

Six of the 11 seats on the Nash-Rocky Mount Schools school board were up for by-district general election on November 8, 2016. District 1 incumbent Doneva Chavis-Battle, District 3 incumbent Franklin Lamm, District 5 incumbent William Sharpe, District 7 incumbent Ricky Jenkins, District 10 incumbent Evelyn Bulluck, and District 11 incumbent Ann Edge were all unopposed in their bids for re-election and won the seats. There was no primary.[2][3]

In District 2, incumbent Jon Hardy ran against newcomers Linwood Weeks, Jeff Williams and Wendy Wilson. Incumbent Brenda Brown was unopposed in District 4. Tiffany Delano, Wayne Doll and Steve Williams challenged incumbent Bonnie Baker Batts for the District 6 seat. Incumbent Reginald Silver faced Steve Bulluck for the District 8 seat. In District 9, incumbent Robert Bynum ran against challenger LaShawnda Washington. Incumbent Michael David Grover, Ricky Jenkins and Latasha B.
